چکیده

The Fourier transform of generalized parton distribution functions at ξ = 0 describes the distribution of partons in the transverse plane. The physical significance of these impact parameter dependent parton distribution functions is discussed. In particular, it is shown that they satisfy positivity constraints which justify their physical interpretation as a probability density. The generalized parton distribution H is related to impact parameter distribution of unpolarized quarks for an unpolarized nucleon, H̃ is related to the distribution of longitudinally polarized quarks in a longitudinally polarized nucleon, and E is related to the distortion of the unpolarized quark distribution in the transverse plane when the nucleon has transverse polarization. The magnitude of the resulting transverse flavor dipole moment can be related to the anomalous magnetic moment for that flavor in a model independent way.

Generalized parton distributions in impact parameter space

We study generalized parton distributions in the impact parameter representation, including the case of nonzero skewness ξ. Using Lorentz invariance, and expressing parton distributions in terms of impact parameter dependent wave functions, we investigate in which way they simultaneously describe longitudinal and transverse structure of a fast moving hadron. We compare this information with the...

Sivers Asymmetry and Generalized Parton Distributions in Impact Parameter Space

Recently, it has been pointed out that there exists a connection between the generalized parton distribution E(x, 0, t) and the Sivers asymmetry. For transversely polarized nucleon targets, generalized parton distributions are asymmetric in impact parameter space. This impact parameter space asymmetry, together with the final state interaction of the active quark, gives rise to the Sivers asymm...

Generalized Parton Distributions, Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering and TMDs

Parton distributions in impact parameter space, which are obtained by Fourier transforming GPDs, exhibit a significant deviation from axial symmetry when target and/or quark are transversely polarized. In combination with the final state interactions, this transverse deformation provides a natural mechanism for naive-T odd transverse single-spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive DIS. The deformatio...

Spin-orbit Correlations and Single-spin Asymmetries

In nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, Fourier transforms of the form factors yield charge distributions in the center of mass frame. In general, the concept of a center of mass has no analog in relativistic theories, and thus the position space interpretation of form factors is frame dependent. This is different in the Infinite Momentum Frame (IMF) or light-cone framework, where a Galilean subg...

Spin densities in the transverse plane and generalized transversity distributions

We show how generalized quark distributions in the nucleon describe the density of polarized quarks in the impact parameter plane, both for longitudinal and transverse polarization of the quark and the nucleon. This density representation entails positivity bounds including chiral-odd distributions, which tighten the known bounds in the chiral-even sector. Using the quark equations of motion, w...
